Fire Play

In the BDSM community,
fire play is a type of sexual play that involves fire
near or directly on a person's skin.

This can be done by placing candles
or other flames near a person's skin,
wiping alcohol on the skin and lighting it,
tapping the skin with a lit torch,
or flogging a person with a flaming whip or flogger.

A fire whip is designed to be soaked in a flammable accelerant
and ignited prior to use.
A Dominant then uses the blazing fire whip to
strike His / Her submissive.

 For obvious reasons,
fire play is generally considered to be a type of
 edge play.
When engaging in fire play,
safety should come first and certain precautions
should be taken.

For instance,
fire and flames should not be placed
close to clothing or hair.
Safewords should be established,
and supplies and equipment
like fire blankets, wet towels,
 and fire extinguishers
should be kept close at hand.

A fire whip may be a singletail or flogger style whip,
with multiple lashes.
Fire whips are typically made from Kevlar,
as this material is tough enough
to withstand being set on fire
time and time again.

Fire whips must be soaked
in a flammable accelerant,
such as lighter fluid and alcohol,
for easy ignition and to stay alight.
The longer you soak the flogger,
the longer it will stay lit.

The whip must also be kept in motion
during use to ensure
the flames don’t go out.
As with all fire play,
using a fire whip is very dangerous.

Using any kind of whip also carries
some degree of risk.
For these reasons,
inexperienced Dominants should not attempt
to use a fire whip.

Dominants should avoid areas
where fire could do serious damage,
like the face and genitals,
and instead focus on the back or chest.

The Dominant must strike the submissive
for only a short period of time
to avoid burning the skin,
with the tails making contact with flesh
rather than the body of the whip.

Swinging the fire whip around in the air
before bringing it down on the skin
can also reduce the risk of burns.
It can also help to “warm up” the
submissive’s body
with fire wands or other
less dangerous fire toys first.

No matter how skilled the Dominant is
 with a fire whip,
the hairs on the submissive’s skin will become singed.

What is discipline ?

Discipline is a common element in BDSM play
and is even sometimes represented by the letter "D" in this acronym.

Discipline refers to the practice of training a submissive to obey a Dominant
and to follow certain rules.

It is most common during submissive or slave training,
but discipline is also present in all aspects of the relationship
between a Dominant and a submissive.

Although punishment can go hand in hand with discipline,
it typically focuses more on helping a submissive to learn
what is expected of them
and how to act accordingly.

For instance,
if a submissive makes an honest mistake,
it is the Dominant's responsibility to discipline her/him
by showing her/him the proper way to do something.

Punishment usually occurs only when a submissive willfully breaks a rule.
It is important to note that those in the BDSM community
view the ability to submit
as a source of empowerment for the submissive.

Although punishment often goes hand in hand with discipline,
it is not the only aspect of it.

For example,
when a submissive does something
in such a way that it does not please a Dominant,
the submissive will usually need to be disciplined.

This usually involves the Dominant explaining what He or She disliked
as well as teaching the submissive how to do it properly.

In some cases, a punishment may also be used
to help a submissive learn a particular lesson better.

However, the punishment should always be related to the infraction.
For example,
a proper punishment for speaking out of turn
may be forbidding speaking or enforcing silence
with a gag for a certain amount of time.

Electrical Play

Electrical play is any type of BDSM play (sexual or non-sexual)
where electricity is used on the body to create different sensations.
The most common electrical toys are neon /violet wands and TENS units.
Both neon wands and violet wands use static electricity to create
a "shocking" feeling on the skin.
TENS units work off of the electricity within our bodies
to cause involuntary muscular contractions.

This type of play is fairly common among BDSM players,
as it can be incredibly versatile and used in a variety of scenes.
Electrical play is often easy to learn, and is permitted at most public BDSM parties,
even those with stricter play guidelines.
Enjoyed by beginners and seasoned players alike,
electrical toys have a great range in intensity,
from very light and sensual to heavy and painful.
At its lowest setting, many compare the violet wand
to the feeling of warm champagne on the skin.
Lower settings on the TENS unit create a deeper muscular throbbing feeling,
which can be experienced by some as tingling,
prickling, vibrating, or buzzing.
Electrical play is fairly safe over all,
but it is important to keep electrical toys away from the heart,
and they should never be used on people with pacemakers
or other medical implants,
or on people who are pregnant
or who have any type of heart condition.
